In frost, wind, and sun, we completed a ~13 mile traverse over three 4,000 footers in Maine: Sugarloaf, Spaulding, and Abraham.
The fall foliage in New Hampshire has never been better than on our hike up Hedgehog Mountain and our drive along the Kancamagus Highway.
As part of the 46 Climbs initiative, we hiked Hawksbill Mountain and a small section of the Appalachian Trail in Shenandoah National Park.
On a crisp September day, we hiked two peaks on the New Hampshire 52 with a view list, Jennings Peak and Sandwich Mountain.
On our last LT section of the summer, we hiked SOBO from Eden’s Crossing to Smuggler’s Notch and enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunsets from Laraway Lookout along the way.
On this southbound (SOBO) hike from Appalachian Gap to Middlebury Gap, we tagged two more of the NE 4,000 footers, Mt. Ellen and Mt. Abraham, and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset at aptly named Sunset Ledge.
This northbound (NOBO) section from Appalachian Gap to Smuggler’s Notch, which included two NE 4,000 footers (Camel’s Hump and Mt. Mansfield), was the most challenging and most rewarding part of the Long Trail so far.
Section-hiked the first 70 miles of the Long Trail in Vermont from the Southern Terminus to Mad Tom Notch and can’t wait to complete the rest. The Long Trail spans the entire state, running 272 miles from Massachusetts to Canada. The Appalachian Trail coincides with the first 105 miles of the Long Trail before splitting off and heading east toward New Hampshire.
